PROTEST AGAINST GENEVA CONVENTION

The Rambam Mesivta High School will be holding a rally in front of the Swiss Consulate located at 633 3rd Avenue on Wednesday, December 5, 2001 at 12:30pm. The focus of the rally will be to protest against the Swiss government who will play host to the Fourth Geneva Convention. The intended purpose of the convention is to take up the cause of the Palestinian people and label Israel (the only democracy in the Middle East) as a country that willfully kills, tortures, and deprives Palestinians of their basic rights. In fact, in an article found in The Internet Jerusalem Post (November 14th, 2001), a draft declaration of the text states that it will ìcall upon the occupying power to immediately refrain from committing grave breaches involving any of the acts mentioned in article 147 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, such as willful depriving of the rights of fair and regular trial, extensive destruction and appropriation of property not justified by military necessity and carried out unlawfully and wantonly.î Because of the obvious bias and misrepresentation of the facts, the U.S. plans to boycott the Geneva Convention.

Depending upon the results of the rally, organizers say they are prepared to launch an e-mail campaign through a student network across the U.S., calling for a boycott of leisure travel to Switzerland.
The rally will also protest the continued presence of the ìKindlifresserbrunnenî or ìOgre Fountainî, which stands in the center of Berne, the capital of Switzerland. According to many historians, (including the Cookís Travellerís Handbook Switzerland), the statue depicts a Jew in the act of devouring Christian babies, an obvious and powerful symbol of Anti-Semitism.
