College and Israel Guidance

The College and Israel Guidance Departments were designed to help both parents and students understand and learn what post-high school opportunities are available, and guide them through the application processes with the ultimate goal of ensuring that each student makes the decision that is right for her, so she may further her education and personal growth upon graduation.

The Israel Guidance Department is designed to understand each student’s unique desires for her year in Israel. Our Menahelet, Esther Eisenman, travels annually to Israel to meet with our alumnae, as well as administrators and students in various seminaries to gather the most up-to-date information to help our students make their decisions. In addition, we hold an Israel Guidance night to share information about each seminary with the students and their parents. Each student meets with her advisor to find the right fit for her. Representatives of the seminaries also visit to discuss their programs and answer questions. Our students have typically applied to and attended the following seminaries: Amudim, Machon Maayan, Michlalah, Midreshet Eshel, Midreshet HaRova, Midreshet Lindenbaum, Midreshet Moriah, Midreshet Tehilla, Midreshet Torat Chessed, Midreshet Torah V’Avodah, Migdal Oz, MMY, Nishmat, Sha’alvim for Women, Tiferet, and Tomer Devora.

The College Guidance Department is the springboard to our students’ futures. Our mission is to encourage each student to explore her own strengths and interests while considering the many possible educational opportunities. Students meet with their advisors both individually and as a group.

To assist in the college process, representatives from various colleges visit Midreshet Shalhevet to address the students and answer questions about their respective schools. This gives the students the opportunity to get information first hand. Students are also encouraged to visit college campuses to help with their decision. Our students have typically applied to and attended the following colleges: Barnard College, Baruch College, Binghamton University, Brooklyn College, City College, City Tech, Columbia University, Harvard University, Hunter College, John Jay College, Lehman College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Queens College, Staten Island College, Stony Brook University, University of Massachusetts, University of Pennsylvania, William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, Yale University, and Yeshiva University – Stern College for Women.

Our guidance departments don’t stop upon admission. We aspire to grow our students’ Torah learning and education as a lifelong endeavor. Our guidance continues long after graduation, with many of our faculty offering students weekly chaburot, shiurim in their homes, advice, direction and always, support.
