GENERAL STUDIES CURRICULUM:

Studies Skills and Strategies Workshop

At the beginning of the school year all pedagogical staff are engaged in Studies Skills and Strategies Workshop. The talmidim on all grade levels receive instruction in practical study skills and test preparation. Talmidim are taught test taking skills, note taking skills, textbook and notebook study skills. There are also discussions regarding the allocation of time vis-a-vis, homework, study and leisure time.

PSAT and SAT Preparation

All grades in the Mesivta receive instruction for the PSAT, SAT I and SAT II college board examinations. Reading, writing, problem-solving skills, arithmetic, basic geometry, algebra, and logical reasoning are emphasized in all english and mathematics classes. The PSAT and SAT’s require mastery of these skills for success on the college board examinations. These skills are emphasized as part of our curriculum.

Intel (Siemens Westinghouse) Talent Research

There is a concerted, coordinated program to develop science research skills in the ninth and tenth grades. Two science teachers coach the talmidim in the development of research skills. A science research course is also offered. The program culminates with the entrance of talmid projects into the National Intel Talent Research Competition.
