Mitnadvim
III - Shaare Tzedek
- Written by Avi Fuss, Rambam
Sophomore and Project Mitnadvim Volunteer
This year, for
Rambam's annual mid-semester mitnadvim trip, a group
of
students
volunteered
in
Shaare Tzedek Medical Center for two weeks. It was a
great opportunity for us to directly help Israel in a
time when hospital services are especially needed.
Previously, the mitnadvim trip consisted of
volunteering on an army base. This year, in tribute to
the memory of Dr. Applebaum and his daughter Naava z"l,
we went to
Shaare Tzedek. Dr. Applebaum and his daughter were
killed at the Cafe Hillel the night before Naava's wedding
in a terrorist attack. He was head of the Department of Emergency
Medicine
and a
pioneer
in
his
field. (More...)

In
the last round of the inter-school Chess competition, the Rambam
chess team went a perfect 7-0 in defeating HAFTR. Rabbi Farkas,
the Rambam chess coach, beamed with pride as he credited the
boys' stellar
play and sportsmanlike behavior. "We implemented some
new strategies which have helped," Rabbi
Farkas said, "And
the boys have been putting in a lot of their own time to gain
a better
mastery
of the game." The Rambam
chess
team's record is now 14.5 - 6.5.
