Purim Chagigah

Erev Purim was a blast at Rambam – Chagigah style - at the Purim Chagigah on Thursday night, March 24th. There was singing, dancing, food, and, of course, great music. Rebbeim and talmidim had a great time.

Zagdanski To Run Leadership Camp

Captain Yoni Zagdanski, an observant Jewish captain in the United States Army, and frequent guest at the Mesivta, visited Rambam on Wednesday, March 23rd, to invite the assembled talmidim to join him this summer for what he called "100% pure adrenaline" at a Leadership Camp in Coram, Long Island.

The boys who will attend the camp will wake up early, daven and have a morning shiur. Then, they will be engaged in fun but physically-challenging missions under the supervision of Zagdanski and his staff, designed to develop leadership, self-confidence, determination, integrity, self-esteem, respect, courage, self-discipline, teamwork and Jewish pride. (Who knows, maybe the boys will even learn to clean up their room?)

After maariv, there will be additional learning before lights out at 22:00 hours.

The camp takes place this summer from August 21 - 26 and includes room and board. Only 30 physically-fit young men ages 14-17 will be eligible to participate.

For more information, contact Captain Zagdanski by phone at 732-476-4800 or, by email at jondanski@hotmail.com.

Rambam Eats For Israel

Hungry Rambam talmidim did their part on Monday, March 21st by participating in "America Eats for Israel" Day. On that day, 10 percent of the gross revenue of participating eateries went to benefit victims of terrorism in Israel.

All profits from this project are sent to the Israel Terror Victims’ Association - Almagor (TVA ) to help victims deal with a terrorism tragedy through giving financial aid, providing emergency services, making hospital visits, sending children to summer camp and hosting memorial events.

"It was the easiest way to give charity possible," said senior Gregory Pearlman. "All I had to do was eat!"

Rambam Kulanu Volunteers Serve up Chesed

Thank you to all the talmidim who participated in the chesed project on Sunday, March 20th at 8:30 a.m.

Lead by Project Chesed Leader Professor Lisa Korman, the students gathered in the mulit-purpose room to bake hamentashen and pack shalach manos for the students of Kulanu. Kulanu is a local Jewish organization, under Orthodox auspices, open to people with disabilities.

Lunch 'n' Learn

Freshmen are encouraged to take advantage of the English Lunch 'n' Learn program in the office of English teacher John Stevens.

During lunch on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, freshmen are encouraged to visit with Mr. Stevens for one-on-one help with their writing assignments.

"Every student is at a different level in their progress as writers," said Mr. Stevens. "There is no better way to improve than with one-on-one sessions."

Students bring their lunch and the rough drafts of their literature essays to Lunch 'n' Learn. They receive personal feedback from the teacher before the assignment is graded which the students greatly appreciate.

HaKaras HaTov

At the behest of the Aleph Foundation, Rambam students trekked to New Jersey on a rainy Monday to help Jewish service men and women celebrate this upcoming Pesach. Talmidim packed grape juice, and seder plates in special U.S. Military Approved boxes for immediate deployment to Iraq.

“It’s guys just a few years older than us fighting thousands of miles away from home that enables us to live freely in our great country” said junior Zoli Honig. “It’s the least we can do to show our Hakaras Hatov to them during these difficult times. This is the only way for them to celebrate Pesach.” (Read more...)
