Ellenville Shabbaton

The cold Catskill weather was no match for the warmth generated during the “Ellenville Shabbaton.” On Parashat Terumah, for the third time, a group of 11th and 12th graders along with Rabbi Warren Cinnamon, joined together with Rabbi Moshe Frank, shlita, and congregation Ezrath Israel.

The boys contributed to the beauty of Shabbat by laining, davening for the amud and delivering Divrei Torah at the communal meals that were shared with the community members. Motzei Shabbat, the Melave Malka featured members of the Rambam Band as well as “Akiva” – a member of the shul and a professional musician.

To further enhance the festivities, they were joined by Rabbi Shlomo Rothenberg, shlita, and a group of his talmidim from Yeshivah Gedolah Zichron Mayer of Mountaindale. Rabbi Rothenberg’s Divrei Chizuk was a wonderful ending to a wonderful Shabbat. (Click here to read letter from Congregation Ezrath Israel...)

Discussion on Mel Gibson’s “The Passion”

Mel Gibson's "Passion" provoked quite a stir in the Jewish community. Although we decided not to organize or participate in any protest -- because our analysis was that the movie would fizzle if everyone ignored it -- we did spend a significant amount of time teaching our talmidim dah mah lehashiv. The Jewish Education Program (JEP) is in full swing at Rambam. This year, we are focusing on JIL – Jewish Individual Learning – a program that pairs up Jewish public school students with orthodox “big brothers” to learn various topics about upcoming Jewish holidays and events.

The first installment of the Rambam Adult Education program was a huge success. Some of the topics covered included a shiur in Inyanei Deyoma by Rabbi Michael Rosensweig, Halachic Analysis of Krias HaMegillah by Rabbi Heshy Reichmanand "The Role of Esther in the Megillah" by Professor Smadar Rosensweig (see picture). This first installment of the Adult Ed. Program concluded with a showing of the movie “Relentless” and a discussion on the movie with Rabbi Yotav Eliach. The second installment of the Adult Ed Program will begin after Pesach. (Click here for schedule..)

Special Sophomore Trip

Students from our sophomore class were treated to a day at the arcade. The boys enjoyed the basketball shoot, air hockey and video games after a morning of shiur.

The results are still rolling in and they are impressive as usual. Close to $600,000 in merit-based academic scholarships have been garnered by our students.

Aaron Etra and Michael Goldman were awarded the prestigious Samuel H. and Rachel Golding Scholarship at Yeshiva University - full scholarships.

Natan Gershonowitz and Aryeh Reinstein were awarded the prestigious scholarship @Brooklyn Polytechnic University.

Other scholarships were earned at NYU, CUNY Honors College and other universities

Congratulations!

DAYENU

We are all familiar with the Dayenu portion of the Hagadah. In addition to giving everyone the opportunity to sing and participate it expresses our everlasting gratitude and appreciation of the Chasdei Hashem. One may ask, however, what is the meaning of saying “if Hashem would have only brought us to Har Sinai but not given us the Torah it would have been enough.” If there was no Torah, being brought to Har Sinai would have been purposeless. Looking Back: Purim Night Chagigah

Motzei Shabbat Erev Purim was a blast at Rambam – Chagigah style! There was singing, dancing, food, and of course – the Rambam Band! Rebbeim and Talmidim had a great time.
