Rambam Robotics Club Competes in Robot Competition in Portugal

Thanks to their victory in the Northeast Regional Competition at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this past June, the Rambam Robotics Club team took the trip of a lifetime to Lisbon, Portugal to compete in the RoboCup International Robotics Competition.

Their success began with the design and construction of their robot. The students used Legos™ for the robot body. Sensors and the Lego™ RCX, a programmable microcontroller, enabled the robot to sense the rhythm of music and dance! (Click here to see video of the dancing robot in action...)

This design, named "Manhattan Project: Acid Burn" by the students, earned the team First Prize in the Dance Competition of the Northeast Regional Competition. In the dance competition, robots are judged on programming, construction, costume, choreography, creativity, originality, and entertainment value. The Rambam students were also awarded the prize of "Most Collegiate" which was voted on by their peers.

Rambam was the only Yeshiva High School at the event and competed against many prestigious high schools in the region including Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, The Bronx High School of Science, The School at Columbia University and the Danville Area High School. (Read more...)

Stellar Scores at Rambam

We are pleased to inform you that we have proof for what our parent-body has always known: our kids are exemplary!

The average grade on all 2003-2004 regents exams was above 90! These scores rank among the highest in our 13-year history. The average score on the SAT exam given in May was 1290, again quite an impressive achievement.

"The Forgotten Theme of Rosh Hashana"
By Rabbi Zev Meir Friedman, Rosh HaMesivta

Ask any person what the focus of their tefilos will be on Rosh Hashana and invariably you will hear 'I pray for good health, nachas, and financial security.' In short – a happy successful year. All of these hopes and more are encapsulated in our traditional greeting of "L'Shana Tova Tikasaivu." However, there is another theme to Rosh Hashana which is oft glossed over despite its significance.

One must turn no further than our machzor where we read the supplication of "U'vchain tain pachdecha" – "Place Your awe on all that You created…Let all revere You and let all of Your creations bow before You. Let all unite to fulfill Your Will wholeheartedly."

"V'yaida kol paool" – "Let all that has been created realize that You are their creator and let all proclaim 'Hashem, the G-d of the Jews is king and rules over all." (Read more...)

Alumni Corner

Rambam alumnus Shmuel Aryeh Ungar (Class of '98) recently attended the Republican National Convention in Madison Square Garden as part of his duties as a Senior Producer for Liberty Broadcasting.

He wrote this note to the Rambam recently about his experience:

"My history with the Rambam Mesivta will always be ingrained in my mind, and without you giving me that push and believing in me I would not be where I am today. With the support of my parents and the administration I owe my success to you both. I will take only a little credit for trying my hardest and being the best I could be. (See pictures of Shmuel with celebrities at the convention...)
