Rambam Open House Welcomes Next Year's Group

The Rambam Open House 2005 was a huge success with over 300 prospective Rambam parents and students in attendance.

As with previous Open Houses, this event featured a special "Student Open House" which was conducted by the current Rambam seniors. Seniors Yaacov Miller, Jonathan Ziring and Zoli Honig presented the 'inside scoop' from a student perspective to the assembled 8th-graders who are currently considering Rambam.

Rosh HaMesivta Rabbi Zev Meir Friedman presented the goals of a Rambam education - to produce responsible graduates who are well versed in Torah, equipped with outstanding academic credentials, committed to Klal Yisrael, and whose midos and leadership qualities will evoke a Kiddush Hashem in college, graduate school and in the workplace.

Rabbi Friedman's message was complemented by that of Principal Yotav Eliach who focused his presentation on the concept of values.

"Every yeshiva high school has its 'superstar' students," Rabbi Eliach said, "and certainly Rambam's academic program produces more than it's share; but today we want to talk about more than academics; we want to talk Values, because Values is what Rambam is all about."

Later, at the Mini-Open House on Tuesday, November 29th, parents who were unable to attend the first event, were also treated to the Rambam experience.

Applications are coming in at a fast pace and interviews are being scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please call us at 516-371-5824 ext. 101, to get answers to any questions about the application or interview process.

Rambam Commemorates Partition Day

To commemorate Partition Day, Rabbi Yotav Eliach presented the geographic history of the Palestinian - Israeli conflict.

Using maps indicating the changing boundaries of the state of Israel over the past 80 years, Eliach presented the history, wars, politics, geography and agreements in a concise 45-minute presentation.

His presentation started with the year 1917, when the British controlled the Mandate of Palestine and its inhabitants, and covered the most significant milestones in the conflict right up through today, the unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and the construction of the security fence around the West Bank.

"The reality is that Israel has tried time and time again to make concessions for peace," said Rabbi Eliach "but right now there is no one to talk to on the other side. So the government has decided to act unilaterally."

After the presentation, students queried Rabbi Eliach with earnest questions about the topic.

Rambam's Prestigious Science Program

"At Rambam, we view Science as an extension on chochmas Hashem, and therefore an embodiment of the core of Jewish values that we impart to our students. It's more than just another class - it's a commitment..."

Fast Start for JV and Varsity Hockey

Click here to view a video excerpt of JV Hockey's third goal in their thrilling overtime game against Davis Renov Stahler (DRS) on Wednesday night, November 29th.

The Rambam Hockey Program continued its promising start this year with JV at 1-2 and Varsity at 2-1.

The JV team has shown remarkable tenacity this year, despite two tough losses recently. Each game was lost by a single goal: 9-8 against the Hebrew Academy of Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) Flames on Wednesday, November 23rd, and 5-4 against DRS in a dramatic overtime loss.

JV coach Yaacov Gross is pleased with his team's performance thus far:

"I think that our team will just keep getting better as the season goes on. Ours is a young team, we play far more 9th graders than do either HAFTR and DRS, so everyone on our side knows that this is a building year. "

"All of the players, offense and defense, starters and subs, made significant contributions on both sides of the court. We took few penalties, and no foolish ones, which shows the kind of personal discipline that we want our players to have."

"Our boys aren't beaten by their losses - they pick themselves up, learn from their mistakes, and get ready to try again, and it's something pretty incredible to see. They are the best players a coach could ask for."

Project Mitnadvim 2006!

Here comes Project Mitnadvim 2006! Project Mitnadvim is one of the innovative Rambam programs in support of the state of Israel. This is the fifth year in which Rambam students, during the January winter break, will exercise the Rambam philosophy of "taking responsibility by taking action" by volunteering in Israel.

This year Project Mitnadvim will go in a slightly different direction. Instead of volunteering at an Army Base or a hospital, as the boys have in the past, this year the Rambam students will be working with the poor of Jerusalem through an organization called: Livnot U’ Lehibanot. Participants will also be visiting and learning at many yeshivot during the course of the trip.
