Accounting (cont...) (BACK

We
have also made our accounting course available to students
of the Davis Renov Stahler School (DRS). The course
is
part of our “new initiatives in education” program,
which in the past has seen us initiate our
Introduction to Palm Pilots for freshman, the Wizard,
the freshman/sophomore study skills course, and our
in-house SAT preparatory program for juniors and seniors.
“It’s a demanding course,” says
Prof. Goldgrab. “It has to be, otherwise YU would
not have given college credits for it.” He notes
that the focus of the program is very different from
the
typical fare offered as part of a high school curriculum. “It
takes some time for the kids to get it right in their
minds. Is this about mathematics? Is it like calculus?
Of course, that’s one of the challenges.” The
work load is also demanding. “I’m impressed
with the kids,” says Prof. Goldgrab. “I’m
used to seeing tough competition between students.
Sometimes it isn’t pretty. But the boys here
work together like a team to help each other out. It’s
the opposite of competition, and it’s a really
nice thing to see.”
