FEBRUARY MADNESS AT
RAMBAM (cont...) (BACK
TO NEWSLETTER) Once
the tournament enters the Elite Eight round, the
games become half-court
matches. Even though the championship game was
delayed one day because of snow, the contenders
were cheered on by
students, faculty
and administrators of the school.
"The normal academic schedule that the students
maintain here is rigorous," said Principal
Rabbi Yotav Eliach, "So the February Madness
Basketball tournament is a way for them to get
a much needed break in the heart of the winter."
More
experienced student - players referee the games
in the early rounds
of the tournament but the honorary position of
refereeing the final contest went to Rabbi Avi
Haar and Rabbi Eliach. Rabbi
Haar is considered a legendary basketball player
in the Yeshiva High School league. Today, he
is an esteemed
member
of
the
Rambam
faculty. (See
