Partition Day Assembly (cont...) (BACK
TO NEWSLETTER) Rabbi
Eliach explained to the students that despite
strong Arab opposition the United Nations voted
to partition Palestine and to create an independent
Jewish state. Noting how the Arabs had the chance
on numerous occasions to create a Palestinian homeland
Rabbi Eliach described the Arabs as "compulsive
gamblers keep playing double or nothing."
He explained that the Arabs chose to focus their
efforts towards destroying the Jewish state while
disregarding the need to create their own.
Rabbi Eliach's analysis of the partition plan
was enhanced with maps that ranged from the British
mandate through to the current map
of Israel.
The attentive faces in the crowd reflected the
importance of the topic especially in
a time of conflict where the existence of the state
of Israel is being challenged every day. Tani
Guterman a
junior at Rambam said:"Rabbi Eliach
presented the topic in an eye opening way that
I have never been exposed to before."
