Hockey 2004 (cont...) (BACK TO NEWSLETTER)

Practice begins with the players running 20 or so laps around the Rambam gymnasium. The players then do a variety of conditioning drills including so-called "suicide sprints", crash drills and intense shooting and passing drills.

"The hard work now will pay off in the end," said four-year Rambam hockey veteran Sruli Wertentheil.

"So far, our main objective has been to focus on conditioning," said Coach Firester. "Our goal is to be the best conditioned team in the league."

With the players fitness program well under way, next week Coach Firester will begin the positioning phase of the hockey program. In this phase, the players learn the specific skills of their position and how it fits into the overall team strategy.

"I'm really excited about this year's program and we hope to go all the way," said coach Firester.

This story was written by Rambam varsity hockey team members Yaakov Miller and Dovi Hochbaum.
