Mock Trial '04 (cont...) (BACK
TO NEWSLETTER)
The first round
consists of two trials. During the first trial,
the team is either the plaintiff or defendant. In
the second
trial, the team argues from the other side.
Rambam's student legal team argued a case in which
the defendant is accused of discriminating
against
a
quadriplegic
for a job in a TV news station.
The Plaintiff, Jo Moncrieff, claimed that the Defendant,
the TV Station, hired another candidate over him because
of his disability. The Defendant claimed that the Plaintiff
was not
hired because he chose a candidate who was
more qualified for the position.
The three
lawyers in this trial
were Stephen Burg, Yaakov
Miller, and Jonathan Ziring.
The three witnesses were Chaim Grushko, Sruli
Szpeigel, and David Katz.
Both teams performed ably and argued their case with
precision. When the verdict was rendered, the Rambam
student legal team won
the case.
In the second trial, powered by student-lawyers
Stephen Burg, Yair Oelbaum, Michael
Pisem and witnesess Michael Stein,
Yoni Markowitz and Aaron Friedman, the Rambam team won a resounding
victory
over Wheaton High School.
