THOUGHTS: From Rosh Mesivta Rabbi Zev Friedman (cont...)
(BACK TO NEWSLETTER)

Perhaps, one could suggest that the lesson being conveyed is a lesson in Hakorat Hatov. While it is true that had we not gotten the Torah our arrival at Har Sinai would be insignificant, we learn that having gotten the Torah we must appreciate and give thanks to Hashem for every step along the way that enabled us to get the Torah. So, our Dayenu does not mean we would be satisfied if all we did was come to Har Sinai and not get the Torah but rather we recognize and give thanks for all He did in giving us the Torah.

There are many practical lessons that we can derive from this concept. How often do people do something good for us and we only focus on the bottom line. We fail to recognize that to get to the final result much toil and effort went in behind the scenes. It is our obligation to give thanks for everything, even the seemingly insignificant things that people do for us.
