The Art Department
Midreshet Shalhevet’s Art Department gives our students an appreciation and recognition of the beauty that surrounds them. Students learn how to create pieces in paints, watercolors, charcoal, and other materials. Art is a 9th grade requirement. Students may elect to continue on to Accelerated Art, Studio Art, and AP Art.
This class introduces students to selected aspects of two-dimensional design, and basic skills of drawing. Tonal renderings with various materials and media (color and black and white) are implemented. During this course, students study the vocabulary and language of applied art, the elements of art, principles of drawing, and the use of media methods and techniques to create art projects.
Students that wish to pursue their natural artistic talents may choose to take Accelerated Art in place of the Art Introduction course in 9th grade, or as an elective in 10th grade. A greater exploration of rendering and design is implemented through more intensive art projects.
This course gives the students an understanding of Adobe Photoshop tools. Photo manipulation and illustration rendering (painting) are also subjects of study.
Students master more in-depth forms of art such as metal object shading, portraits, close ups, and still life. This course is required for students who intend to take AP Art as seniors.
