The Math Department

Following New York State Regents Common Core Curriculum in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, math courses culminate annually with Regents exams. Students are expected to identify and justify mathematical relationships, formally and informally. Students who have already mastered Common Core Algebra I in 8th grade will begin with Common Core Geometry.

ALGEBRA
Topics include algebraic expressions and modeling, polynomials, functions, probability, and statistics, among others.

GEOMETRY
Topics of discussion include congruency, transformations, similarity, introductory
trigonometry, 3-dimensional geometry, conic sections and geometric modeling.

ALGEBRA II (TRIGONOMETRY)
The capstone course of the new Common Core Regents sequence, includes advanced
algebraic techniques, trigonometric functions, advanced probability and statistics and
other applications. Students will interpret categorical and quantitative data, making
inferences and justifying conclusions.

BUSINESS MATH
Elective
Students learn how businesses and households make financial decisions. The course
teaches an understanding of basic financial concepts, and the math skills involved.

AP CALCULUS AB
Elective
This course is for those who have completed Trigonometry. Calculus AB consists of work in differential and integral calculus and related topics.

AP CALCULUS BC
Elective
This advanced course continues and extends the work completed in Calculus AB.
